All about Darryl Bywater
I love beaches, being near the sea, being outside and active in the outdoors, preferably in the warm sun. I've been drawn to the sea ever since I was an infant I guess, happy memories of family summers spent on Hayling island in Hampshire, the UK.
Now South East Asia is the perfect place for me to live, especially Vietnam. The Vietnamese people I've met always seem to be happy and smiling, I love how family is everything to them, their society is so much better than the UK has become and what the majority of the western world has become in my lifetime.
The voting system is broken in the UK, my vote counts for nothing, why bother? It's a race to the bottom now, wonderful people in ALL the public services are underpaid and demoralised. Stay and allow them to grind you down or leave.
I left the madness to live every day with a smile on my face, millions more are leaving the toxic situation in the UK too.
I've listed a few Vietnamese beach cities below, I intend to spend a month or two , maybe more in each during the next few years. Asia is a big and diverse place, life is for living, I love it. THERE IS NOTHING STOPPING ANYONE JOINING ME, I MEAN IT!
See the two 45 floor buildings in the picture, you can rent a modern, fully furnished two en-suite double bedroomed apartment for around £400 a month, 200 metres from the beach. Insane.
Top Beach Cities in Vietnam (from Grok)
Vietnam boasts over 3,000 km of coastline with stunning beaches ranging from bustling urban shores to secluded island paradises. Based on popular recommendations, here are some of the best beach cities and towns, known for their white sands, clear waters, and vibrant vibes. I've focused on the most frequently mentioned spots for a mix of relaxation, activities, and accessibility.
Nha Trang Central Vietnam (Khanh Hoa Province)
Vietnam's premier beach destination with 6 km of golden sands, luxury resorts, and water sports like snorkelling and diving. It's a lively city with nightlife and nearby islands for day trips.
Da Nang Central Vietnam
Home to My Khe Beach (often ranked among Asia's best), with urban convenience, dragon bridges, and proximity to Marble Mountains. Ideal for families and surfers.
Hoi An Central Vietnam (near Da Nang)
Charming ancient town with An Bang Beach—pristine, less crowded sands perfect for cycling and fresh seafood. Combines cultural heritage with laid-back beach vibes.
Quy Nhon Central Vietnam (Binh Dinh Province)
An under-the-radar gem with uncrowded beaches like Bai Xep and Ky Co, plus Cham Towers for history buffs. Great for authentic Vietnamese coastal life.
Mui Ne South-Central Vietnam (Binh Thuan Province)
Famous for its endless dunes, kite-surfing, and colourful fishing boats. The beach stretches 20+ km with budget resorts and fresh seafood markets.
Phu Quoc Southwest Vietnam (island off Cambodia)
Tropical island escape with Sao Beach's powdery white sands, national parks, and pepper farms. Best for luxury resorts, diving, and sunset cruises.
Vung Tau South Vietnam (Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province)
Quick getaway from Ho Chi Minh City with Ho Coc Beach's clear waters and pine forests. Popular for weekenders seeking urban beaches and seafood.
These spots cater to different tastes—Nha Trang and Da Nang for energy, Quy Nhon and Hoi An for tranquility. Best time to visit: Dry season (December–April in the south, February–August in the north). Fly into major hubs like Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City for easy access. If you're planning a trip, consider combining a few via the scenic coastal road!
